Now I am not following you. In those countries with authoritarian regimes, civil opposition parties are almost alway banned, and religious leaders tend to be the only voice of opposition heard. They also have the ability to organize in the name of practicing religion. See: Egypt, Algeria, Morrocco, Mauritania, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, to name just a few.
