The two vaccines that are under testing still (no vaccine has yet been approved for this, I believe) are --- according to many researchers --- unlikely to be effective against either the current strain of 'bird flu' that is spreading (it has already changed too much)... or whatever new strain may arise if genes are swapped with a human flu strain, triggering a faster-spreading outbreak.

Without useful vaccines, the only available medical recourse for treatment is likely to be broad-spectrum anti-viral compounds.
