Philips' First Immersive Entertainment System Uses 3DImage 975;
Trident Supports Graphics Convergence On Philips' Multimedia Home
Theater

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1997--Trident Microsystems (NASDAQ:TRID) today
confirmed that the company's popular 3Dimage(TM) 975 3D graphics accelerator has been chosen to be the graphics solution
for Philips' new DVX 8000.

The DVX8000 Multimedia Home Theater is a digital convergence component designed to serve as the heart of an advanced
home entertainment system. Video capability in the DVX 8000 includes a television tuner, a video line doubler and a DVD
player to handle DVD movies, DVD-ROMs, CD-ROMs and CD-audio. Audio capabilities include an FM tuner, a
Marantz-designed pre-amplifier and support for Dolby Digital and Dolby PRP surround sound. Complete PC functionality
supports interactive gaming, educational activities and Internet browsing.

Trident's 3Dimage 975 graphics accelerator handles the graphics distribution within the PC function of the DVX8000. In that
key role, the chip is responsible for TV-Out functionality for high-speed interactive gaming, Internet, and educational
programs.

The 3Dimage 975 is the only chip that has a setup engine directly on Chip to meet the requirement for high performance and
maintain low-cost. The chip can offload up to 50% of the graphics functions from the processor. This enables both stunning
high-speed 3D graphics, as well as much faster processing of all the computing functions within the system.

"Trident has given Philips a single-chip graphics solution that performs all the functions needed to provide our customers with
outstanding graphics from a home entertainment center," according to Brad Beitel, general manager of the Philips Digital
Entertainment Group. "We believe that the convergence of the home entertainment and PC markets will be a technological
hotbed for innovative solutions, which Trident can clearly cover."

"Philips is the ideal partner to go into the home entertainment market with. They are market leaders in so many areas, with a
long history of industry firsts, that we are both proud and confident to be on the DVX8000 machine," said Dr. Yong Yao, vice
president of strategic marketing and planning for Trident Microsystems. "Our history in graphics is also noteworthy, we were
the first to provide TV-out, and now we exploring new avenues to provide faster, clearer and more powerful 3D graphics
results."
