I use Acronis TrueImage. If your drive crashes you boot from a cd that you made when first setting up the program. I store my images on another internal hard drive along with all my personal files but you could store them on any media large enough to fit. Takes about 15 unattended minutes to restore an image. It's saved me lots of time and headaches. I make an incremental backup about once a week so the worst (barring a complete disaster) that can happen is reloading any programs or tweaks I have made after the last image.
