You may be right Bill, and I agree it appears they aren't interested in getting the viewers Fox has been able to get.

But what the author confuses is where the "outlook" comes from. CNN's outlook is liberally biased, negative and often times anti-American. Take a look at the shows they just got rid of. Judy Woodruff - very leftist. The Capital Gang - three or four leftists with one insider conservative to argue and mock with. Until they deal with their underlying culture which creates the environment around which they select their news stories, frame their news stories and choose the words associated with those news stories, they won't have a chance of catching Fox.

There is also a better sense of teamwork on Fox. The players seem to root for one another the way a well run organization should. In other words, they look like they're having more fun doing their job at FOX. CNN appears to be stuck in one of those corporate non-trusting bureaucracies where each person is out for their own achievements. I can imagine some pretty nasty behind the scenes power grabs going on in that environment.

It stems from their association with the far left in American politics. The mental models are the same.
