Aavid Thermal Technologies Announces $1 Million European Expansion

LACONIA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1997--

Expansion Targeted to Meet Market Demand For

Pentium(R) II Thermal Solutions

Aavid Thermal Technologies - the world's leader in providing thermal management solutions for power and digital electronics - today announced a $1 million European investment to meet demand for its new range of thermal solutions for OEMs using Intel's Pentium(R) II microprocessor.

The investment in its UK-based manufacturing facility increases Aavid's total worldwide manufacturing capacity to more than 500,000 square feet and is expected to expand Aavid's European staff by more than 30 new employees by February 1998.

``This investment is part of Aavid's ongoing expansion of our global capabilities to respond to our customers' thermal solution requirements,'' said Aavid President and CEO Ronald Borelli. ``This has been a highly successful strategy for Aavid, as we have recently expanded or acquired facilities in Toronto, Texas, California and Taiwan.

``Our expansion of Aavid's operations in the United Kingdom will increase Aavid's overall manufacturing capacity and allow us to respond more rapidly and flexibly to our European customers' requirements for engineering support. The manufacturing technologies this investment will put in place demonstrate Aavid's commitment to help our customers meet the critical challenge of getting new products to market faster,'' concluded Borelli.

Ray Morris, Managing Director of Aavid Europe, explains that the program reflects Aavid's worldwide growth that has seen the company's sales revenues rise by a record 61% during the last quarter alone.

``We are clearly witnessing a trend in the field of electronic component design. Intel's Pentium II is just the latest in a long line of faster chips in smaller enclosures where the issue of thermal management is critical at the earliest stages of the product design process,'' said Morris.

Morris describes the investment plan as a demonstration of Aavid's commitment to markets outside the U.S. and signals the intensification of an on-going European expansion program.

``Aavid has been in a position to provide manufactured solutions and comprehensive European customer support services from its new UK headquarters unveiled last year. This additional $1 million investment will further enhance our manufacturing capacity and demonstrate our 'serious intent' towards the European computer market,'' Morris concluded.

The announcement follows Aavid's recent launch of a heat sink family optimized to cool Intel's Pentium(R) II Microprocessor. The new thermal solutions incorporate system level thermal optimization and robust mechanical attachment to the processor cartridge and motherboard.
