NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Moody's Investors Service on Wednesday cut General Motors Corp.'s (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) debt ratings to junk status, citing continued operating losses in North America and restructuring challenges at the world's largest automaker.

Moody's also cut the ratings of General Motors Acceptance Corp., GM's finance arm, to junk status.
