Tim, you have to learn to write shorter sentences. If I left the sentence as long, it would have been easier to read with parenthesis instead of all commas. But making shorter and more to the point - No matter who was president we would not have achieved energy independence. Hate him or like him, Gore was sounding the energy bell long before any of the other major politicians. I never said otherwise. But there is no way he would have led us to energy independence. Which was my point. I didn't claim that he would not have tried to reduce energy use and particularly oil use in the US. Tim
