Arun Re: "Millions of immigrants...when they come to USA" Thanks, Arun for making my point. Millions of immigrants DO come here, do "millions" go to India? Do you have large blocks of Europeans or Englishmen there, and I'm not talking of the few thousands of relatively well off retired and elderly Europeans, or the very small number working there in tourism or for the transnationals. How many millions of Englishmen remain there from your hundreds of years in the British Empire?
I am speaking of true immigration, where large numbers of people without wealth just come there with their families and just fall into the workforce, working side by side with the native people in the factories and farms. India doesn't allow that Arun, it is against the law as no alien is able to get a work permit. And not long ago it was impossible for an alien to own property, and I suppose it still is.
We have over 30 million foreign born Mexicans and Central Americans here and many more counting illegals. Thats 10% of our population. Does India have a similar proportion of recent arrivals there? With your total population that would be maybe 100 million or more.
Back in the 1960's my East Indian college room mate and I worked together at part time jobs, first a picture frame factory and then a metal plater. We just walked in and were hired together, him the same as me, no questions asked. Could we have done that in India, then or now? Of course not.
Could I just go out in rural India without any money and be accepted, as he was here, working there and marrying a local girl and starting a family, as he did here without adapting totally to the social mores of rural India? Of course not, and you know it. And if you happen to say I could, well just where in India do you have large numbers of migrants from Europe or America living and working in the small towns and villages?
