Mindmeld, Ten, the one debate we shouldn't be having is whether or not oil dependence is bad for this country.

All of the efforts you mentioned only amount to conservation. Without a replacement source of energy, getting America off of oil in 10 years is next to impossible. And other countries like China would be more than happy to buy the oil that we're trying to ween ourselves off of.

Does that mean we should consume more before China becomes a superpower? Of course not. You said it yourself, our current leadership lacks imagination. Well, if you really want imagination, let's start here. How much do we spend on Iraq? How about even the Space Shuttle? What if we poured that money into fusion technology instead?
