"The techniques for achieving these quantum improvements in quality require a strategic commitment by corporate management as well as involvement by all levels of the organization,” said Jack West, former president of the American Society for Quality, an ACSI partner."

Deming tried to tell Detroit this starting nearly 60 years ago. It isn't like this is news to them. But, the Japanese listened, at least for the most part.

I don't get GM at all. Forget that the quality is still not there after 25 years of trying but their designs......they rarely turn out a car that looks good. I have never seen a corporation with such an entrenched corp. culture that insists they are right no matter what the consumer wants. Do you know that a majority of their auto sales are to car rental companies and the like? They would never be able to sell the quantity of cars [vs trucks] they do sell without those fleet sales.
