I do not agree. al Qiada killed thousands of Americans before we invaded Iraq. There is no reason to think that if we leave Iraq that al Qiada will shift focus totally to Iraq (once the Americans are gone). Al Qiada have been killing Americans all around the world well before the Invasion of Iraq. In 1992 within months of the end of the Gulf War, people associated with bin Laden (a few people believe these were Iraqi Agents) entered the United States and a year later they bombed the World Trade Center (the team included an Iraqi and Ramzi Yousef - who is supposed to be from Kuwait). We chased al Qiada out of the Sudan, blew up there camps in Afghanistan, and yet they found the means to attack Americans. They killed thousands of Americans even though al Qiada was still engaged in a Civil War in Afghanistan - the Taliban used "Arab" troops as their elite forces. If there is a Civil War in Iraq(and no American presence) there will be, at least for a while, safe zones for al Qiada. From these zones it is reasonable to think they will conceive large attacks against American and Americans - as they have in the past. Their goal is to attack the United States repeatedly with devastating attacks till the United States removes all presence from the Middle East (and then Southern Asia, South East Asia, the Balkans, North Africa, Iberia, the Horn of Africa, West Africa...).
