I know that in California the dumbing down of the state colleges occured during Reagan's first term. I could see it clearly as I was in college when he was elected, joined the Army for 4 years and then returned to the same college. The curriculum had become so much easier it was almost a joke, yet, my school was considered "tough academically" among the state colleges. The general education requirements were especially hard hit. When I was first there, you had to take Biology and Chemistry (though you could substitute Botany if you had good grades in high school biology, as I did. I nearly flunked Botany as I'm color blind and was too stupid to realize that color was very important in Botany. <G>) When I got back after four years, the Math requirement had disapppeared and there were special science courses for liberal arts and business majors. Or, as I called one of them, Physics for Idiots.

It was pretty sad. It is now sadder.
