Most of us on this thread who work in the field with this
equipment deal with it at the level of the application
programmer. This is the level which I was referring to.
I see the majority of the Y2k problem existing in these
years of "3rd generation" programs in the languages of BASIC,
C, and also the vendor's proprietary languages.

Some of these early applications may have been supplemented with
"2nd generation" assembly language subroutines where the
programmer does indeed have access to the inividual registers
on the timer chips themselves. It depends on the controller
and how deep the programmer went into it.
