Osama Bin Lauden is who Bush should have worried about, not Saddam Hussein. Instead Bush let Osama get away and Al Qaida regroup and start growing again. Which they have done.
Saddam Hussein was not an Islamic, not a terrorist funder (except as a PR move against Israel, but much less so than Saudi Arabia), had no Al Qaida ties, no active WMD's programs, no air force, no longrange missiles, etc.
What Saddam did have was some huge oilfields with the Texas and Kuwaiti Bushies had been lusting over since the 90's. This invasion of theirs was presented to the American people and congress as self-defense. It had little to do with defense. It was an oil and power grab, but one so poorly planned that it failed completely.
Now we are stuck there trying to find a Vietnam-type exit. Bushies are 100% to blame for this, not those calling for an end to the war. And if you really want to support the troops, impeach the godawful commander in chief and end this war.
Ironically, we now find that Saddam may not have been such a bad deal for us. The real fear now is civil war, with the US caught in the middle of it. Basically, the Shias dont want to give the Sunnis any oil or real power. So what will the Sunnis do? And if we reward the Sunnis we are rewarding Saddam's gang. FUBAR. |
