Home Depot is into solar bigtime

[Snip]
The partnership has been in place in New Jersey's 65 Home Depot stores since April, but the parties came together Thursday under a broiling sun at the entrance to the Burlington Township Home Depot to trumpet a one-stop shopping opportunity. So far 35 contracts have been signed at Home Depots in New Jersey with an average cost of $50,000 per household.

Under the program, Home Depot will conduct a free, on-site evaluation of a property, install the panels and manage the paperwork so a buyer would be required to deposit only about $1,000 on what typically is a $50,000 purchase.

Home Depot collects the rebate directly from the state. It also is offering to finance the balance at zero interest and zero payments for 12 months.

"We talked about installing solar for years, but never did anything about it," said Titone, whose rebate came to $46,200.
