Katrina is likely to hit someone and will pack a punch no matter what CAT it will be officially labeled..............no one that gets hit by this storm will be happy.

It would be nice to think it will dissipate out in the GOM but that scenario is unlikely. Everyone who is potentially in it's way should prepare............and that includes anyone in New Orleans.

The evacuation routes in New Orleans aren't the greatest so anyone who can leave should do so at the earliest possible opportunity if given a fairly high probability of a direct hit.

OR........stock up on life preservers and floaties!

A good heads up to anyone living on the Gulf coast where Katrina has the potential to meet the edge of the north american continent.
