Deregulation = a license to steal. Some common sense deregulation is fine, but first the S+L debacle and now this rampant energy and gasoline gouging. And no one ever held accountable until it's too late, if ever. The Reagan idea of "free enterprise" is more like "freedom to break the rules" or have no rules at all. Under Bush-Cheney it's particularly hard on the environment, our public health and our fiscal well-being.

I recommend the energy business is re-regulated and charged with windfall profits taxes until the war is paid for and any environmental damage they've caused is cleaned up. Plus, there should be no incentives for polluting fuels and lots of incentives for clean renewable fuels. Obviously, the energy business and particularly the Texas thieves can no longer be trusted.
