Vietnam is a perfect example of why we need to get out of Iraq. The country was no real threat to us. We got caught in the midst of a civil war we didn't understand. The open borders made it unwinnable. And we made more enemies than we made friends by our heavy-handed imperialist approach. Yes we did some good things, but the policies are flawed and doomed to failure. And that has nothing to do with the troops. The US military needs to come home, rest, heal, regroup and be used for much smarter and more limited operations. They can also be used to fortify our southern borders which are wide open. Why are we paying for and manning the rebuilding of Iraq? Only because Bush lied to us and made a huge blunder. We're not stuck there. We can start leaving at any time.
