I understand that people made claims very similar to yours in the 1920s. No further advances were likely, in fact we had nearly reached the theoretical limits of technological achievement and efficiency. In fact oil would be exhausted before 1950. Of course none of these claims were true. They were based on simple extrapolation of current technology without regard for future advances.

Long stagnant oil prices created little incentive for anyone to proceed past the safety and comfort of the tried and true. Higher prices force innovation and those unwilling to innovate are forced out of business.
