thanks Grainne

you know, I think we hit on something earlier that you brushed aside but I think it is CRITICAL to understanding your position on animals vs humans

I had suggested a hypothetical scenario where you have to decide between the lives of 1000 dogs vs the life of a child.

you replied
No, I wouldn't kill a thousand dogs to save my child. I find that morally repugnant, and cannot imagine a scenario where that would be my dilemma.

of course, sacrificing animals in labratory testing is a perfect example of where we put the lives of animals in the balance on the scale of human advancement vs the animals right to NOT be test

now, for the sake of argument, lets put a condition on your theory that medical tests ARE NOTMAY NOT BE necessary, to an absolute certainty that they DO help advance medicine/bio-technology breakthroughs.

ok

now, is it ethical to sacrifice the animals?

my guess is that you balance the worth of a single animal the same as the worth of a single human and therefore there is no ethical validation of sacrificing the animal for the human, even if that sacrifice is part of a program that will cure<....> fill in the blank

ok - WAY too long of a post and I dont know where I going with it...

am I correct? do you wiegh the value of a human = the value of a dog?
