Bob; The market will speak soon enough. No good answer means you can only use cr*p as a comment.
It is easy enough to confirm the chip shortages, it is on the Mac sites.
The other stuff, also common sense, if you have been there. I have made 20 trips to Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Singapore over the past 10 years, and the Wintels are supreme in Asia. In Japan is the only place where the Apples did well, but that is dropping now as Wintels catch up. Japan was a funny situation as many home grown computers based on CPM were strong until the late 80's, this allowed the Apples to beat the jap cpm machines to death. But this has reversed and Wintels are now bigger in Japan than Apples.
Price performance, measure speed, measure price, compute the MIPS/$, and Apple loses to Wintels. If you take high end Wintels like IBM, Compaq and low end Power clones of the higher speed, then there is a match and even a coss over with Apple better.
But take the Screwdriver shop Wintels and the Apple is far outclassed in MIPS/$

You're smokin', not me.
