IMO knowledge separates us from other animals. It's our ability to transmit a great deal of complex knowledge from one person to another over time and space that makes us unique. It's not even necessary to have direct contact with another person in order to get knowledge from him. That's pretty cool.

It's arguable that animals have 'culture and customs' even though our understanding of them appears to be limited to their use of tools, choice of locations and things like that. Who knows, maybe that is the limit of their culture.

What I'm saying is that there is no human act that, in some context, isn't sometimes 'good' and sometimes 'bad.' Whether it's 'good' or 'bad' is a matter of opinion. There are no absolutes no matter how many cultures and societies want to proclaim that there are.

I agree that, in order to be civilized (i.e. away from our natural selves) we need rules but those 'norms' and 'rules' aren't absolute, they differ from society to society.

I don't know if the above is very clear but it's Sunday and, boy, am I sleepy.

:) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
