My husband saw that in some of the people around him. Like many people who resist cult like behavior, my husband found curious secret ways to resist the authority, and assert his independence, and keep his individuality. He also got out as soon as he could, realizing the military was a terrible fit for someone as freethinking as he is. I don't fault the military for it's use of techniques that involve mind control- in fact I think they may be absolutely necessary. Denying that they exist, on the other hand, seems just odd. But odd is ok, as long as people hold their odd ideas nicely.
