Brooks appears on the News Hour on PBS. Mostly I would like to slap him upside the head when he makes statements like:

"Today, public opinion is turning against the war not because people have given up on the goal of advancing freedom, but because they are not sure this war is winnable. Why should we sacrifice more American lives to a lost cause?

If President Bush is going to rebuild support for the war, he's going to have to explain specifically how it can be won..."

Wrong. People don't agree that there's ever been a legitimate reason for this war. Even Bush has reverted back to talking about the war on terrorism instead of harping on democracy. The Republican talkingpoints are now focusing on the Constitution losing in 6 weeks but how that's no big deal and that we'll just be there for another 5 years keeping a lid on things.

WHAT?

Besides, there's no winning if there's no specific end game. So winnable isn't even on the table.

Is the end game Sharia law where even the woman who met with Bush and called him 'my liberator' is now leaving the country? Is the end game a 3 state solution with the Sunnis declaring war for oil revenues against the Shiites? Is the end game an Iraq-Iran superstate with decades of insurgency and terrorism ahead?

Is the end game so much continuing chaos in the region that oil prices and BigOil profits soar until oil runs out?
