Hurricanes are something you cannot understand unless you have experienced one. People tend to think that they are just bad storms. The problem with that is their scale is off. By a lot. They are totally beyond the scale of anything in normal human experience. I am told that being in a bad earthquake is a transcendental experience. And I can well believe it. But an earthquake is over in seconds. It takes hours for a hurricane to pass. And during the whole time you are totally at its mercy, completely helpless.

I am guessing that Ted has never been through one. He certainly doesn't seem to understand the scale of deaths or destruction that is possible from this. There are over 100k people in New Orleans and who aren't going to be able to leave. Easily a third of those could die. Even more. It could even be the case that New Orleans is never rebuilt to any extent.
