"I dont think you realize what we are trying to accomplish here."

Sure I do... I just believe the odds are better if we aren't there interposed between warring clans.

You know... ther are some folks (call them 'nationalists' if you will) who don't cotton to being occupied by foreign troops, regardless of how nive the words are that are used by the foreigners....

"I do not believe we should encourage or even allow if we can outside interference."

See my point above. 'Locals' might be regarded as a lot less 'foreign' then we are. (Ever hear of 'pan-Arabism' in the past century?) The main thing we are doing now seems to be slowing down the ultimate resolution of the situation... giving hotheads on both sides someone to blame for all their troubles. Not smart.

"As to the Sudan, you miss the point. The USA doesnt intervene for purely humanitarian purposes, we intervene when its in our National interests."

LOL! Islamis extremism is on the MARCH in Sudan more then in any other nation in the world right now. The 'Arabization' policy is ethnic cleansing, pure and simple, with radical Whabbist type Sunnis taking over the land (size of Texas)....

And THAT ain't in our national interests to resist????

You ever hear of the 'War on Terrorism', the war on extremism?

You've got a funny way to look at what's in our 'national interests' if you think being bogged down with an Iraqi 'tar baby' is doing our national interests any good --- while radical Islamic extremism is raping and murdering it's way across the largest nation in Africa, and North Korea is busy building nukes... and Iran gearing up for it.

(You ever think that with Iran and Saudi Arabia bleeding from financing and supporting opposite sides in an Iraqi civil war, that that wouldn't cause wide-spread resentment against their Authoritarian leadership among their populations... and maybe even pull resources away from the nuke drive if we are lucky?)
