Don't expect as much damage to the oil and gas infrastructure in the Gulf as many are projecting.

Many of the weaker structures in the Gulf were already damaged by Ivan and were brought up to todays higher standards when repaired. Most of the structures in the Gulf are designed to withstand a direct hit from a class 5 hurricane. The most vulnerable offshore equipment will be jack-up rigs.

Refineries will only be down for a day or two and any lost oil production will be made up from the SPR.

Looks like many of the institutional players are using the spike up by the newbie's as an opportunity to take profits.
