Slag, what you describe maintains people as some sort of locus in developments. I see humans as being simply left behind, rather than taken over or enslaved. Those working in cyberspace now don't see themselves as enslaved. They are making seriously good money and while cyberspace has need of human services, it will pay what's needed to keep people helping out, just as happens in other symbiotic relationships. Once cyberspace can do things better Itself, the people will have to get real jobs waiting tables for other humans, cleaning their cars or whatever. It's quite obvious that humans are not the end-stage of development of consciousness and environmental interaction. The universe has not yet been tamed, as far as I can tell, and certainly not to my satisfaction. Like snails and chimps, humans will be irrelevant to It, not competitors, or buddies, or slaves.
