I was struck this morning by the news that a small apartment building in Biloxi immediately across the highway from the Gulf was gone along with thirty people. The same thing happened in Camille only there weren't so many people in the building then. The thread was talking about hurricane parties the other day and that's the building I referred to where the partyers were. Maybe no one around the current batch remembered that incident. I'm struck, though, by the way the event repeated itself so closely. I also remember vividly from Camille the sight of a yacht stuck halfway into a big picture window of a hotel on the main drag like a fish in a giant maw. Saw a similar picture on TV yesterday. I guess boats stuck in odd places make for memorable scenes. Yesterday it was thought that New Orleans dodged a bullet, but it boomeranged. There were just too many things that could have gone wrong there to escape all of them. So sad. Hope all your friends and family are well, even if temporarily or permanently homeless. Events like this remind us of what is important.
