Re: Nomai drive

I was not familiar with this device, but again I don't see it as Jaz competition. The reason is that although it is clear that other manufacturers seem to understand that Iomega has identified a heretofore untapped market for removable drives (amazing how they all seem inspired by IOMG's styling), there is limited room for the number of formats that the market can support. I can't imagine service bureaus and others will be eager to stock a dozen or more formats on the off chance that someone will walk in with one of them.

IOMG supposedly has a 540Mb Jaz cartridge (just like they reportedly have a 25Mb Zip disk) but to date these haven't been released. I'm sure it could be released if they had evidence of strong consumer demand for the smaller capacity, however I suspect they're paying more attention to readying the 2Gb Jaz and dropping the price of the 1Gb media down into the $75 range. Given IOMG's stated goal of getting into the $299 price range on the Jaz drive I don't see much advantage in saving $100 now and risking major interchange incompatibilities down the road.
