Remember that they aren't even counting the dead in Louisiana. Many areas can only be reached by air or by boat, the roads are washed out. So what has happened in many of the small communities in the affected area can only be guessed at. In New Orleans, there is only one road that exits the city now...

That area has always been a worse case for hurricanes. I still say it is questionable whether or not New Orleans will be rebuilt where it is, instead of relocating it somewhere else.
