Yak update...

Yak report

Here's a quick summary--more later. The yaks are in Laytonville,
housed at xxxxxxxxxxxxx, the perfect spot. They have two
stalls in the barn and several large fields--sometimes they're out of
sight behind knolls. They have shade, plenty of fresh water, and a
lot of feed in the ground. We feed them supplementary grass hay every
evening.
We received four cows with the assumption that all were pregnant. So
far we have two calves, one older by about three days than his
brother. We believe at least one of the other cows is pregnant so
we're expecting one more baby, hopefully a female. We also have a
bull yearling named Sparky, with a flowing white-tipped tail. It was
clear that the yaks had not been receiving enough food or attention
at their home farther north. Now you can feel their relief and
pleasure.
The yaks are truly wonderful but some have not been handled at all,
like Sparky. They're pretty wild, with big horns, and they're quick
and agile. We will have a form for people to sign releasing the
xxxxxx from any liability connected with the yaks or the buildings
nearby. You can see them, however, without signing anything--but you
can't go in to the corral with them or into the barn.
We have not set up a viewing day yet. It would be in the early
evening, as that's when they come up for their supplementary feed.
Anyone who is interested in the yak project or who wants to be a
bonafide Yakalero should contact xxxxxxxxxx. We're truly
excited. They are beautiful animals with a spiritual presence. And
they have magnificent tails!
