I use diskeeper to defrag so I do not have access to the Windows defragger. When you try to start it up diskeeper starts instead. I am guessing that you were fragmented when you made the image. I have defragged my storage drive several times and never had any sort of problem. As a matter of fact, it just occurred to me that the image is a single file (rather large one) so a defrag should have no effect on it at all.
