Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you.

But SYQT seems to be living a hand-to-mouth existence these days with creditors very reluctant to dig themselves deeper. A very difficult exercise in bootstrapping for this product, whatever its technical merits. Potential partners are going to look at Jaz's demonstrated success in both retail and OEM channels, the knowledge that Jaz2 is waiting in the wings, and the expected price declines over the next year and will more than likely conclude (as did Seagate) that it is easier to partner with the leader than to go toe-to-toe in another costly round of margin-eroding competition.

I think one of the key factors working in IOMG's favor these days is that they represent an island of high-margin profitability in a sea of commoditization. Others are much more likely to want a piece of the island than to try and drag it down into the sea so they can all tread water together. This is the only reason I can imagine that a market leader like Seagate would choose to align itself with an upstart like Iomega.
