"Yes, I saw on the news today about the snakes and alligators." Something that can be almost as dangerous are fire ants. You see, they are originally from Central America and have this neat way to deal with floods. They hang on to each other and form these balls which float on the water. When they touch something, they very quickly break formation and start crawling over that object, the ones that touch the object pull the others over so they all can climb on. If that object is you, you find yourself covered with literally thousands of ants in what seems to be an instant. Ant these ants can seriously hurt you, especially that many. I knew about fire ants and their migration from Central America but I did not realize they were that common in the South. I thought they were mostly in the rural areas. What's happening with the African and Africanized bees? ted
