When I was living in King County - it was split up into school districts by municipality. The result was that in Kent where my son was in elementary school - he had one minority student in the entire school. Its not much better in any of the burb's (unless you count yuppie asians as a minority).

Seattle and Tacoma do have substantial to majority 'minority' populations however.

Contrast this with North Carolina where the school he transfered into has substantial minority and esl student populations. Here the school districts are by and large done at a county level and a combination of magnet schools and transportation are used to ensure 'homogenization'.
