If you were in Money Swamp Venice, there are no "just a tropical storm" ;-)

Extensive energy infrastructure was built up over years and years, will not be repaired instantly.

For the economic impact, note there is NO SLACK in the US energy markets - if there were, the economic impact would be much much less, since there would be moderately higher prices, but fewer actual physical shortages.
