Everyone beaten by Rove's tricks and smears could be considered a wimp. But put yourselves in their places.
Say you're running against a Rove client. You're ahead by 2% two weeks before the election and on message talking about real issues. Suddenly, some group of creepy guys not directly connected to Rove (but secretly managed by him) start spreading rumors that you're a homosexual, a coward, a traitor, beat your wife, did heroin in college, whatever.
What do you do? If you respond, you're knocked off message and the press picks up the scandalous controversy. Since you have no time to absolutely prove you're innocent, all you can do is refuse to comment or blanket deny. But the Rove rumor mill echo chamber continues. Rightwing money flows into the smear group. They buy TV ads. You opponent and Rove deny any role in in. Meanwhile Rove portrays his guy as a patriot and family man, etc.
You lose the election by 1%. Were you a wimp not to have gotten down in the mud with Rove's smear artists? Maybe, or maybe you just respect truth, democracy and honest debate.
Whatever, McCain is probably the favorite in 2008 and he was called by Roveites a homo, traitor, whore-monger, psycho, cowardly, etc. Kerry may also be the next presdient. Don't count him out. Rove is being unmasked now. The evil is being exposed.
PS: I urged Kerry's people to immediately respond to the smearvets with an open press conference to clear up every charge. They didn't. They wanted to talk about jobs, health care and our national future. |
