I am not an engineer but I would think that the current breaches would reduce stress on the rest of the levees if they were all holding back Lake Ponchartrain.

It's now one big lake!

ANy currents that arise from tides and new water flows would add to erosion of existing levees. People walking around in the water and all the vehicles in the water will help destroy other levees cause it causes a disturbance in the water which creates currents.

Just a guess!
