Barbara Wolfe, a UW-Madison professor of economics, public affairs and population health sciences, said the troubled manufacturing sector is just one reason the state and nation face tough economic futures.

"There's every indication that the housing bubble is about to burst . . . and the cost of fuel is going up," Wolfe said.

"There's no reason to expect any more positive numbers."
