Arnie / Toronto 35 Oil & Gas Producers

O-K, I'll bite with rankings.

To begin, there are only 4 oil & gas producers in this elite index - one integrated oil and three senior producers.

#1. Canadian Occidental Petroleum - Buy
#2. Imperial Oil - Accumilate
#3. Ranger Oil - Hold
#4. Renaissance Energy - Hold

The first two choices were easy. Preferences was given to potential share appreciation over next 12 month period.

Canadian Oxy has a lot going due to recent Yemen activity, increasing production and reserves.

Imperial Oil is great long term core holding with dividend.

Ranger Oil will begin to bear fruit for shareholders mid-1998 as North Sea production and reserves dramatically increase and brought to forefront of investors.

Renaissance Energy out of favor with investment sector. I believe reduced drilling activity will effect reporting numbers for 1997 and possibly in early half of 1998. However, this is a strong company with superb management and I'm sure company will not take long to get back on track. Shares are historically at a low in relation to cash flow and earnings. Not one to jump out of now and worth holding.

You got my two cents worth. Perhaps you would want to expand the question to the Toronto 100, maybe even the Toronto 200. If you do, I'll put you on the hot seat to provide the listings.
