Manufactured housing industry: COA, CHB, FLE all sported gains greater than 10% today as speculators are betting that FEMA trailers will house the homeless.

One has to wonder whether this hurricane will follow the typical rebuilding boom effect of other hurricanes or whether the sheer scale or strategic location of Katrina will unleash other more sinister forces, such as a doubling of gasoline prices, which at least one energy economist has predicted, and its attendant effects on discretionary spending.

If scientists are right about global warming, hurricane and similar natural disaster plays may become more frequent in the 21st century as the rise of ocean temperatures plqays havoc with weather patterns.
