Hi JT,

I have no patience for party politics in times of disaster and stress. It's as much a sign of our decline as anything I've seen in "New Orleans."

If I can't control a crowd of citizens with my brain... then I don't deserve to be in control. My guns are reserved for my "enemies," and even there I only support using them to kill... not control. Besides, everybody knows that the only place you can find a crowd in Idaho is at the VA. <vbg>

Besides... you and I both know that everyone in this country is a "liberal" ...except maybe the terrorist cells and others who prefer some kind of dictatorial personality cult. Fortunately they're still in a minority.

But that may change if we don't start getting more elected officials with better leadership skills. The system is producing too many panderers and poll watchers at every level of government. We need more with the guts and skill to lead big crowds through the difficult times to come.

From what I've seen so far the folks who count in this Southern situation (local, state, federal) have all failed to learn the lesson of Giuliani on 9/11. You can't "lead" the leaderless from the bunkers in city hall or all these pretty FEMA disaster recovery centers. You've got to get your butt out on the streets, the levees, whatever and where ever the problems are. When times are toughest, it's always more important for leaders to be seen working the problem than to be working the problem. That's what the foot soldiers are for.

But don't get me started on this crop of "civil" authorities. The best I can say about them is that it will provide a great text book example of how not to handle a disaster. Just be glad you've got a Coast Guard and military.

Nice market pop today though. Looks like Wall Street and most Mom & Pops still think this is going to be just another economic "stimulant." If so... its going to be a real Bear to kick the habit. <Hoo><Hoo>
