Katrina will have messed up the transport of coal by barge and rail, and coal is already tight at the utilities because of transportaiton problems.

More rail traffic will be used to move grains and crops, and this will displace the coal shippments. The trains go in very different directions.

Some utilities were burning NG to conserve coal.

Expect that some Northern US utilites will buy electricty from Cananda instead of letting fuel supplies drop to critical levels.

And the Canadian Utes will burn NG to make electricity.
Of course, this will competre with NG demand to process tar sands for gasoline...
