One report from the Army Engineers said that the extreme undertow from the high winds sucked enough sand out from under the concrete part of the levee's that the concrete parts collapsed from the unsupported weight.

All the repairs and rebuilding and reinforcing to preclude another disaster along the Gulf coast won't cost more than a $10,000/person in the U.S. in the form of taxes, increased prices and new "stuff" to battle nature's furious minions.
