This is a request for a change to the moderator status on SI. I think many long time SI people feel the same need for a change.

I like having a moderator who has the ability to remove repetitive bashing and pumping, personal attacks, vulgarity, etc. I also like his having the ability to ban a poster, but that ban should come only after a specific warning to someone as to how that poster has violated the board's specific rules.

I was recently banned on a board by a weenie who apparently doesn't like my posts on another message board. On the board I was banned, I hadn't posted for a long, long time. Also it is a stock board with very little interest. It would be foolish to have more than 1 board for the specific penny stock. A very specific small interest in a stock board would be diluted and confusion for new readers would be greater.

I know you have the option here of creating a duplicate board. That's fine for general type discussion. My suggestion would be that there only be 1 board for a particular stock ticker. Having more than one creates confusion in searching and creating interest in a particular stock. With the continuing demise of boards on Yahoo and RB (largely ticker related), I feel you have the ability to get new users from those communities. However, they need to be attracted with a ticker listing approach that is easier to get to. I think the only good thing about RB and Yahoo is that you can quickly go to a board with a ticker symbol and then create a very organized set of favorites, easy to access.

Having multiple boards for a stock creates some confusion, particularly for new users. So, in summary, I like the banning and removal of posts function, but

here is my request

require a specific posted warning to someone before banning and it should not relate to posts on another board and it should not be personal. I.e., if someone doesn't like you, he should not be able to ban you if you post according to the rules of that specific board. Also, it should not be just because someone posts once in a negative fashion or even a pumping way. Repetitive bash and pump is what disrupts boards. In my case, it was the weenie who was upset that I posted some cutting comments on another board and he was just flexing his perceived internet "muscle." <gggg>
