I have been watching and reading the news reports WRT the devastation in the Southeast. Already, stones are being thrown at rescue efforts re people being turned away from the Houston Astrodome and other assistance.
Kiddies, when you hear/read these reports, please keep in mind that I am always first in line to condemn and castigate mindless bureaucracies. However, I know (as I am sure you do) fraud can run rampant. Trust, but verify. In other words, please don't be to quick to jump to what may seem to be an obvious (but wholly erroneous) conclusion.
That said, I say also that fraud and cons will be with us until beyond the end of time. I say that if these "refugees" can present a proper, valid, verifiable picture ID, stating their place of residence, or even if they look and sound to have been through society's mill, give them the benefit of the doubt and let them in and help them for the short term.
Proof, if it is to be forthcoming, will come. If and when proof does not come, then kick the frauds and cons out of whatever program they have managed to weasel themselves into at the expense of that time-honored magical match of the truly needy and the truly philanthropic. - Holly |
