The Katrina disaster has altered the financial landscape in that one can forget about budget deficit improvement. This is no time for fiscal discipline; it will take many billions to pay for years of reconstruction,this is causing the dollar to plummet and removes the shackles from gold. The Fed is in a box here, it's hard to guess how they respond.
