Weather and climate record-keeping started in the mid-1800's, so weather "history" consists of less than 200 years... Since the earth is millions or billions of years old, and no one was keeping statistics during that time, there is really no meaningful weather history available for comparisons. There easily could have been 1,600 hurricanes with identical force that hit where New Orleans is now located, in the years between 100 million b.c to 101 million b.c.
